Condolences to the Howard Family

The Sentinel Striders would like to offer it condolences to the Howard family on the loss of Deb's Father Charles Rogers.

Charles K. Rogers,
age 74, of Bluffton, SC passed away on March 21, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte M. Rogers. He was the son of the late Charles and Irene (Oliveira) Rogers of Riverside, R.I. He had lived in Bluffton for 9 years formally residing in Smithfield, R.I.

Mr. Rogers was a graduate of Roger Williams Jr. College and received a Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Rhode Island College. He started his career in education teaching at Smithfield High School, then South Attleboro Middle School. He taught and later became principal of the Rhode Island Training School for Boys. He co-owed the Hall Institute of Technology from 1972 to 1993. He was employed by New England Institute of Technology as the Assistant to the President from 1994 until his retirement in 2009.

Mr. Rogers finished his teaching career by being a substitute elementary school teacher in Beaufort, County S.C. His greatest joy was teaching children of all ages, He was past president of the Smithfield Lions Club and the Roger Williams Kiwanis Club; he was also a volunteer at Bluffton Self Help a non-profit group for 4 1/2 years. 

Besides his wife of 52 years, he leaves a daughter Debra and her husband Thomas Howard II, two sons Timothy J. Rogers and his wife Suzanne, Christopher C. Rogers and his wife Terri. He also leaves four grandsons Christopher Rogers II, Daniel Rogers, Thomas J. Howard III, Nicholas C. Howard and two granddaughters Maritza and Tiffany Howard, also many foster children who entered his life and were so special to him. He also leaves a sister Donna Ferreira and her husband John of Winder, GA.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his daughter's residence at 76 Pleasant View Ave., Greenville, RI on Sunday April 22, 2018 from 1 to 5pm.
